Final Reflection Post

My favorite project that we completed this semester was probably the Audio Story. This project stuck out to me the most because I had such a fun time interviewing my close friends about whether or not they get homesick. It was very interesting to hear the different responses people had to the same questions.

I honestly think that all the skills I learned in this course will be useful for my future. There were some very particular skills that most likely will not be used beyond this course, but for the most part, it taught me an overall use of technology and the Adobe Software.

I am not quite sure what career path I want to go down yet. There are so many different job opportunities out there for communication majors that I have not totally figured out my plans yet. I am majoring in Public Relations, and since I am only a sophomore, I know I have plenty of time to figure out what specific job title I want to go into. I think the skills I have learned throughout this semester will be very useful and influential no matter what job I take out of college. I learned such a wide variety of things; from Photoshop, Illustrator, Audio, and Premiere, I know that each one will be influential at some point down my career path.

Honestly, I feel like I have learned so many skills throughout the entirety of this semester that I can’t even think of any other skills left. I feel so knowledgeable on all the Adobe technology and I feel like these are skills I will use for the majority of my lifetime.

I did not really consult many outside resources or websites when completing my projects for this course. I usually got ideas of inspiration from my friends or they kind of just popped into my head. Overall, this course was so interesting to me and it was actually fun completing the different projects each week.

Final Video Story

For my project I decided to focus my topic on living away from home. I chose to do a story on how people incorporate their previous lives into their new ones away at college. For the design process I got my inspiration from my friends rooms and how they decorate their desk with pictures from their previous lives at home. The principle of photography inspired me because a picture speaks a thousand words and people can decorate their rooms with memories that reminds them of home. The elements in my design are significant because it makes my project personal and it can vary from person to person. I have always been one to keep tons of photos up of my family and friends, so it was something that I thought would be interesting to explore how other people do as well. Once I had all my videos, I input them into premiere and edited out all the unnecessary parts of the video. This polished my project because it only added the parts that were needed to enhance the video to its full potential.

I took videos of my friends rooms and then interviewed them for my project. My process was not complicated, but I did do a couple different things to try and perfect my video. In my draft story, I realized I filmed the videos horizontally, which cut me out of the screen when I put it into premiere. So I redid my interviews, filming them vertically this time. I used the crop tool to cut parts out of the video that were unnecessary. I put background music throughout the entire video, having it fade in and out in order to hear the interview parts. I also added title slides to show what I would be talking about in the interviews. Saving and submitting my draft post was difficult, but I figured it out this time and was able to submit it to YouTube correctly.

Draft Story

For my project I decided to focus my topic on living away from home. I chose to do a story on how people incorporate their pervious lives to their new ones away at college. For the design process I got my inspiration from my friends rooms and how they decorate their desk with pictures from their previous lives at home. The principle of photography inspired me because a picture speaks a thousand words and people can decorate their rooms with memories that reminds them of home. The significance of the elements in my design because it makes my project personal and it can vary from person to person.

Since this is just my draft, I did not use as many tools; my process was very simple. I really just used the crop tool to cut parts out of the video. I encountered a few challenges dealing with premiere. I tried to add music but it was not working. For my final project I do plan on incorporating music into the background of my video. I also had a very major issue submitting the project. I followed all of the steps, but the video would not save for the web. Overall, I am excited to keep learning how to use premiere and make my project the best it can be.
